Cloud emissivityInfrared interferometric spectra obtained by Nimbus-4 instrumentation are analyzed for the spectral properties of cloud brightness temperatures as a function of wave number. It is shown that cloud-top altitude determination can be corrected for emissions from lower levels in the cloud if an estimate can be made of the particle density. Brightness temperature in the 700 to 950 wave number region can be used to estimate cloud number density.
