Silica RSI Morphology and PropertiesThe morphology of all silica materials studied has been noncrystalline and resistant to any phase transformations upon subsequent thermal testing representative of the shuttle environment envelope. The development of an extremely dependable reusable surface insulation material family offering the inherently superior characteristics of amorphous silica for the shuttle is described.
