Space shuttle orbiter rudder/speedbrake actuation systemA mechanical hydraulic actuation system for control of the rudder and speedbrake aerosurfaces of the space shuttle orbiter was developed to meet the strict operational requirements imposed on this flight critical function. The requirements, hardware configuration, development experience, and test program accomplished in the evolution of this system are described.
