On the orbit improvement results obtained by referring old cometary observations to the SAO Star CatalogAn algorithm is presented for the automatic reduction to the SAO Star Catalog of old micrometer cometary observations of the type comet minus star. Results of a numerical test are presented showing the distinct influence of such a reduction on orbit determination results.
