Preliminary Results of the NEAR Gamma-Ray SpectrometerThe Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) spacecraft was put into a 35 km orbit on December 13, 2000. This is first opportunity for the Gamma-ray Spectrometer to collect good geochemical data from Eros. Preliminary measurements for a number of key elements are in good agreement with predictions. Additional information is contained in the original extended abstract.
