The shape of the sodium D lines in a high-temperature helium atmosphereAn experiment was performed to measure the shape of the sodium resonance doublet (lambda 5890, lambda 5896) in a high-temperature helium atmosphere. A piston compressor was used to produce temperatures in the range 3000 K to 5500 K. Absorption-line widths and shifts are reported and the widths agree well with calculations.
