Satellite altimetry applicationsIn satellite altimetry the highly stable platform provided by a satellite is utilized as a moving reference system from which vertical measurements to the ocean surface are made. Satellite altimetry applications are related to geoid determination, questions concerning the consideration of local topography, geological-structure studies, investigations regarding the distribution of wave heights, current detection, and the mapping of land topography.
