The preprocessing of multispectral data. IIIt is pointed out that a correction of atmospheric effects is an important requirement for a full utilization of the possibilities provided by preprocessing techniques. The most significant characteristics of original and preprocessed data are considered, taking into account the solution of classification problems by means of the preprocessing procedure. Improvements obtainable with different preprocessing techniques are illustrated with the aid of examples involving Landsat data regarding an area in Colorado.
