Flame propagation and extinction for clouds of particlesThe article describes an experimental approach to obtain data on flame propagation rates and extinction conditions for quiescent, uniform clouds of large, small, or various-sized vaporizable particulates. Such experimentation may be applied in-space to collect data for clouds of porous solid particulates. Attention is given to the creation of a homogeneous combustible cloud at g = 1 along with the effects of turbulence, turbulence decay rates, and gravitational settling on combustion observations.
