The nonaxisymmetric nozzle - It is for realA review is made of the current status of the nonaxisymmetric nozzle from a technology standpoint. Some of the potential payoffs attributed to this class of nozzles installed on twin-engine high performance fighter aircraft are addressed. These payoffs include a reduction in cruise drag through improved integration and an increase in aircraft maneuverability and agility through the application of thrust vectoring and reversing. Improved takeoff and landing characteristics also are expected through the use of thrust vectoring and reversing. Stealth and survivability aspects of the aircraft can be increased through a reduction of nozzle infrared signature and radar cross section.
