Finite-state compensators for continuous processA mathematical representation of feedback systems composed of both continuous and finite-state processes is discussed. This representation provides a new viewpoint for the design of computer control systems for industrial processes, and clarifies areas in which further research is required. Some examples are given depicting the stabilization of an unstable lag by a D-type flip flop.
