Performance of computer-optimized tapered-roller bearings to 2.4 million DNThe temperature distribution and bearing heat generation of 120.65 mm bore high-speed tapered roller bearings was determined at shaft speeds of 20,000 rpm under simultaneous thrust and radial loads. The temperatures and thermal outputs were computed as functions of shaft speed, loading lubricant flow rates, and lubricant inlet temperatures. Bearing temperatures and heat generation were considerably lower than in standard bearings; cup cooling was effective in lowering cup temperatures to levels of cone temperatures.
