Producing High-Purity Silicon With SodiumSimple technique for producing silicon for solar cells employs solid sodium to reduce silicon fluoride. Since solid rather than liquid sodium is used, careful temperature control is unnecessary, and simple feed equipment is used. Technique is energy-efficient, since reaction produces enough heat to sustain itself.
