Weathering of iron sulfides under Mars surface ambient conditionsThe study of iron sulfide surface alternation reactions under Mars' surface ambient conditions begun during 1980 was extended through improved irradiation design and experimental protocols. A wider range of humidities and more intense irradiation were incorporated in the study. X-ray photoelectron spectra of irradiated chips suggest formation of FeSO4, FeCO3, and an iron oxide on the iron sulfide substrates studied.
