Buoyancy effects on the temperature field in downward spreading flamesIt is shown that flames which spread vertically down thermally thin fuels at the same Damkoehler number, and therefore have the same dimensionless spread rate, also have the same dimensionless temperature fields irrespective of differences in physical size. The Frey and Tien (1976) effects of pressure on flame size are due to the effects of pressure on the character of the induced buoyant flow.
