Thermal dielectric breakdown with cylindrical electrodesSolutions to the equations of thermal breakdown are computed for cylindrial electrodes with different boundary conditions. The development of the electric field and the temperature distributions are followed as functions of time, consequent on the application of a constant interelectrode voltage. The implications for possible breakdown by modes other than thermal are briefly discussed.
