An extensometer for axial strain measurement at high temperatureMost existing strain measuring instruments, important for the investigation of the mechanical behavior of metals at high temperature, have temperature, strain range, and size limitations. In this short note the authors give the design and construction of an extensometer with sufficient dynamic range and good stability over long periods of time, for measuring the longitudinal strain of plane specimens from 0.001 to 0.1 at temperatures up to 800 C.
