Acousto-optic Extensometer for BoltsBolt torque or tension deduced from non contacting measurements. Pulsed Laser induces shockwave in bolthead while continuous-wave acousto-optic detector monitors distortion produced by shock. Shock travel time measured to determine bolt length. Solid-state position detector relatively inexpensive and keeps down cost of extensometer.
