Material removal considerations for metal-ceramic abradable turbine seal systemsPossible interaction mechanisms between turbine blade tips and ceramic seal elements have been considered and preferred mechanism defined. The influence of porosity in the seal structure is qualitatively assessed and a preferred form determined. A dual-density plasma-sprayed ceramic seal system encompassing the desired characteristics is described and test results, including engine tests, are reported. Possible remedies to correct performance deficiencies are presented.
