Accuracy of Lidar Measurements of the AtmosphereReport reviews sources of systematic error in laser radar (lidar) measurements of particles in atmosphere. Report applies particularly to stationary pulsed carbon dioxide lidars of type used to measure backscatter from aerosols in troposphere. Provides information for calibrating such systems accurately and consistently and interpreting their data correctly. Also useful in calibrating mobile and airborne lidars, lidars operating at wavelengths other than those of carbon dioxide lasers, and continuouswave lidars.
