Characteristics of the Elevation Drive Suspension of the 64-meter AntennasThe elevation axis drive unit of the DSN 64-m antennas is arranged so that its output pinion can self-align to the bull gear. The design is described and conflicting desiderata are discussed. Static stability criterion for the elevation drive, derivation of strut stiffness ratios, and an outline for removing, installing, and adjusting the vertical struts are included.
