Computer processing of radiographic imagesIn the past 20 years, a substantial amount of effort has been expended on the development of computer techniques for enhancement of X-ray images and for automated extraction of quantitative diagnostic information. The historical development of these methods is described. Illustrative examples are presented and factors influencing the relative success or failure of various techniques are discussed. Some examples of current research in radiographic image processing is described.
