Oscillation Damper With Two Spring RatesHydraulic damping used in device developed to stabilize vibrating structure in space. Damping mechanism stops oscillation of attached boom. Two bellows provide fluid damping. Springs are engaged when extra spring force required. Otherwise they retract. Mechanism especially useful for arresting oscillatory motion of slender boom with large mass. On Earth, such configurations arise in design of masts and cranes.
