A two-dimensional near-infrared tracking systemVideo tracking systems face the problem of discriminating between a target in space and the earth in the background. The visual tracking system described in this paper uses the near-infrared to take advantage of differences in spectral reflectance between the target and the earth in the background to enhance amplitude differences, simplifying the detection process. The real-time visual tracking system is microprocessor controlled, light weight, and low-power.
