Computer aided modelling/compensator design for a flexible space antennaController design algorithms are developed to produce simultaneously both a model of the plant and a compensator. The size of the model and properties of the compensator are driven by the performance requirements, the disturbance environment, and the location, number and type of sensors and actuators. The procedure is based on linear optimal control theory for distributed systems, and balanced realization theory is used to guide the development of the model and reduce the order of the compensator.
