An interpretation of the ion pile-up region outside the ionospheric contact surfaceThe possibility that the formation of the plasma pile-up region at comet Halley as observed by Giotto could be the combined result of field-aligned transport and recombination process is discussed. Giotto measurements support the hypothesis.
