Climate variability as observed by the Nimbus-7 ERBLimits to the accuracy of the Earth Radiation Budget (ERB) data being obtained by the Nimbus-7 satellite are discussed with emphasis on the implications for the measured variabilities in the global climate. Error analyses are performed for both wide and narrow field of view instruments and the success of in-flight calibration efforts is noted. Alterations in the ERB due to the eruptions of El Chichon in 1982 and the 1982-1983 ENSO event are summarized, particularly the teleconnections which were observed during ENSO.
