Near-wall turbulence alteration through thin streamwise ribletsThe possibility of improving the level of drag reduction associated with near-wall riblets is considered. The methodology involves the use of a hot-wire anemometer to study various surface geometries on small, easily constructed models. These models consist of small, adjacent rectangular channels on the wall aligned in the streamwise direction. The VITA technique is modified and applied to thin-element-array and smooth flat-plate data and the results are indicated schematically.
