Ultraviolet Lidar Would Measure Wind VelocityIncoherent Doppler-shifted scattering from aerosols reveals important weather data. Remote-sensing system in early stage of development makes global measurements of wind velocities along probing beam of ultraviolet light. In aviation system promotes safety through detection of wind shears and clear-air turbulence. System includes range-gated ultraviolet-excimer laser operating at 308 or 353 nm.
