Some probable characteristics of the Martian regolithA number of Mars surface environmental factors seriously affect the properties of the Martian regolith. The result is a regolith that is rather different from that of the moon. Some of the anticipated differences are discussed: weathering and lack of old glass; desert varnish; lack of micrometeorite impact products; abundance of meteorite fragments; and different grain size characteristics.
