The augmented Lagrangian method for estimating the diffusion coefficient in an elliptic equationA hybrid method is presented for the estimation of parameters, combining the output-least-squares and the equation-error approaches. The mathematical framework is given by an augmented Lagrangian formulation. The resulting algorithm has proved to be very effective numerically.
