Application of the V/V(max) test to gamma-ray burstsThe V/V(max) test applied to a well-defined sample of objects provides a quantitative test for the uniformity of the space distribution of the parent population of the objects. The application of this test to gamma-ray bursts is discussed. In contrast to tests involving size-frequency distributions, the V/V(max) test is independent of variations in sensitivity. The use of the V/V(max) test on a small sample of bursts from the HEAO A-4 experiment is illustrated. It is urged that experimenters publish the detection limit for each recorded gamma-ray burst.
