Performance of an active control system with piezoelectric actuatorsPiezoelectric actuators are used to control the structural vibrations of flexible beams, and a modified independent modal space control method is employed to select the optimal location, control gains, and excitation voltage of the piezoelectric actuators. The method minimizes both the vibration amplitudes of the beams to which these actuators are bonded and the input control effort needed to suppress these vibrations. The effects of the actuators and the bonding layers on the elastic and inertial properties of the composite flexible beams is taken into account.
