Color constancy and the natural imageColor vision is useful only if it is possible to identify an object's color across many viewing contexts. Here, consideration is given to recent results on how to estimate the surface reflectance function of an object from image data, despite (1) uncertainty in the spectral power distribution of the ambient lighting, and (2) uncertainty about what other surfaces will be in the field of view.
