Mean inversion strength of the convective boundary layer over the oceanThe present consideration of an equilibrium energy budget for the oceanic convective boundary layer indicates that the mean inversion strength in balance with a radiatively driven subsidence is of the order of 9 K, in keeping with the widely-observed value most recently reported by Kuo and Schubert (1988). Calculations are presented for the convective boundary layer's potential temperature budget.
