Unmanned and manned Mars missions - Aeroassist technology needs and issuesThe critical aeroassist technologies are considered, with consideration given to the manned and unmanned Mars missions. Attention is given to the aerothermal characterization, the thermal-protection system (TPS), the guidance navigation and control systems, and atmospheric uncertainties. Particular consideration is given to the aerobrake assembly concepts for an unmanned Mars mission, and to programmatics.
