Finite-State CodesNew class of codes with desirable properties constructed from block codes. Finite-state encoder is machine that has finite number of internal states. Receives k parallel information symbols and transmits n parallel code symbols at each clock pulse. Finite-state codes include both block and convolutional codes. Theory of finite-state codes used to study properties of error-correcting codes in general and to design new codes to various specifications.
