CZCS imagery of the North SeaA major series of CZCS satellite images of the North Sea has been processed to obtain information on the distribution of optical properties of chlorophyll, suspended sediments and coccolithophore blooms. The atmospheric correction of the scenes has been carried out after the method suggested by Gordon et al. (1983) and also by the interactive aerosol removal technique suggested by Arnone and LaViolette (1984). The processing techniques are described in relation to problems encountered in a case II water area such as the North Sea. Examples of atmospherically corrected CZCS images are presented and compared with available in situ chlorophyll.
