Oxygen-rich mass loss from carbon-rich stars - Some implicationsThe degree of dust-to-gas coupling in the atmospheres of red giant stars is evaluated, and nonzero drift velocities are found. Chemical fractionation of the stellar atmosphere on an evolutionary time scale is implied.
