Quad-Port Transceivers For A Dual-CRR LANQuad-port fiber-optic transceivers demonstrated successfully as physical-layer interface units in WhisperNet - local-area network (LAN) of computers and other devices in communication with each other. Each node of Dual-CRR LAN contains quad-port transceiver serving four pairs of optical fibers. Quad-port transceiver consists of two dual-port transceivers and ancillary equipment in compact package. Transceiver serves as interface between optical fibers and external computing devices. Because of high reliability, availability and "fail-soft" nature, network well suited to military and critical commercial applications.
