Experiments and theory for a Tm:Ho:YAG laser end pumped by a Cr:GSAG laserA Cr:GSAG-laser-pumped Tm:Ho:YAG laser has been fabricated and tested. A maximum output energy of 14 mJ with a slope efficiency of 33.6 percent was obtained using a 98-percent reflective output coupler. A comprehensive rate equation model has been developed to describe laser performance. Details of the experimental measurements and model are presented.
