Inhomogeneities in the universe on scales of (125/h Mpc)3Number counts of galaxies from a recently completed catalog of galaxies based on 16 plates obtained for the second-epoch Palomar Observatory Sky Survey are presented. A difference of 30 percent in the galaxy surface density is observed in magnitudes between the range of 16.5-19.0 in r. Because the entire survey has been brought to a common magnitude system using CCD photometry, variations in the magnitude zero point of the individual plates cannot account for this effect. Several tests have been conducted to verify the homogeneity of the catalog. The angular extent and depth of the survey suggests that structures of size 1/50 Mpc could be responsible for this effect.
