The return of humans to the moon - Scientific challenges and opportunitiesThe scientific opportunities and challenges involved in the return of humans to the moon are discussed. The opportunities include the scientific study of the moon from the perspectives of its ability to shed light on the origin of the earth-moon system and to serve as a platform from which to conduct a wide variety of scientific activities. Among the challenges, the foremost is the interacton of humans and machines in carrying out these activities in the most effective manner.
