Theory of anisotropic thin-walled closed-section beams with hygrothermal effectsA variationally consistent theory is developed in order to derive the governing equations of anisotropic thin-walled beams with closed sections subjected to axial load, torsion, bending and hygrothermal loads. The theory is based on an asymptotical analysis of two-dimensional shell theory. Closed-form expressions for the beam stiffness coefficients, equivalent hygrothermal loads, stress and displacement fields are provided. The influence of material anisotropy and hygrothermal coefficients on the displacement field is identified. The analysis is applied to predict the response of composite beams under thermomechanical loading.
