Analytic orbit plane targeting for orbit transfers about an oblate planetThis paper develops closed-form expressions which accurately model variations in orbital inclination and longitude of the ascending node due to the influence of the J2 oblateness perturbation. These analytic expressions are particularly useful in defining perturbed orbit transfer planes which naturally regress into the target intercept position for Lambert-type transfers and in compensating for differential nodal regression between two orbiting vehicles in rendezvous targeting problems. Results of example problems for each of these scenarios demonstrate that they accurately compensate for these oblateness effects.
