Hydrogen at high pressureResults of recent studies of the high-pressure states of hydrogen using diamond anvils are summarized. Problems associated with the study of hydrogen under megabar pressures are briefly examined. Attention is then given to new data on the physical state of solid hydrogen, the 1.5-megabar phase transition, changes in the electronic configuration of hydrogen at high pressure, and directions of further research on the high-pressure phases of hydrogen.
