Compact Optical CorrelatorOptical cross-correlator indicates position of target (if any) in scene matching target encoded in matched filter. Size reduced by use of prisms to fold optical path. Device designed, assembled from commercial components, and tested to verify feasibility of miniaturization for eventual incorporation into navigational and/or control systems of autonomous vehicles. For example, aircraft equipped with optical correlator recognizes prescribed target and measures its position, so that it lands on target under automatic control.
