Generating AC With Rotating Solar CellsRotating solar photovoltaic cells or batteries connected to suitable mechanical and/or electronic commutators produce nearly sinusoidal alternating current. Eliminates need for inverter circuitry and its attendant power-consumption and heat-dissipation problems, but imposes need for low-power-consumption rotary mechanism. Intended for use aboard spacecraft, also useful in special terrestrial situations where solar electric power must be transmitted over powerlines from one remote location to another.
