Earth Observing System (EOS) real-time onboard orbit determinationThe paper describes the TDRSS Onboard Navigation System (TONS) selected by NASA/GSFC for the EOS-AM1 spacecraft as the baseline navigation system for real-time onboard orbit determination. Particular attention is given to the TONS algorithms and environmental models, the general design considerations, the algorithm implementation, and the required hardware. Results are presented of the covariance analysis for the nominal onboard and instrument requirements.
