Overall assessment of needs and benefits in controlled structuresThe potential benefits of employing controlled structures technology in spacecraft design are illustrated using an example of a Mission-to-Planet Earth multisensor geostationary platform. The platform has a precipitation mapping sensor which requires large antennas to meet the science requirement of resolution cell size and dynamic measurement range. A series approach and an integrated approach to designing a controlled structure are discussed.
